Vocational rehabilitation is a program designed to help individuals with disabilities prepare for, find, and maintain employment. It is beneficial for individuals with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities who want to work or improve their employability.
Vocational rehabilitation programs offer a range of services, including career counselling, skills assessment for interest-ability matching, job training, internship opportunities, job placement assistance (both supported and open employment), accommodations in the workplace, and ongoing support services.
Individuals with documented disabilities that interfere with their ability to work or pursue employment goals are eligible for vocational rehabilitation services. The age range to get assessed for Vocational readiness starts after 15 years of age and employment starts at the age of 18 years.
Vocational rehabilitation programs aim to match individuals with disabilities to a wide range of employment opportunities based on their skills, interests, and abilities. At DeepRanjani Foundation, we have five in-house workstations for training, interning and supported employment. The workstations are Handicrafts, Bakery, Spice Making, Stitching and Multimedia.
The duration of vocational rehabilitation support varies depending on individual needs, goals, and progress. Some individuals may require short-term assistance to obtain employment, while others may need ongoing support to maintain their jobs or advance their careers. However, DeepRanjani extends an ongoing support to the employee and employer to ensure retention and ethical practices.
After spending a considerable amount of time in Special Schools, when it comes to finding a meaningful engagement and employment opportunity, most of the individuals with special needs find a block at the end of the road.
